Sindhu belongs to a Malayali family.

Though she was born and brought up in Bengaluru, her family background is from Kerala.

She is a trained Bharatanatyam dancer. She won several competitions during her school days.

While she performed in one of the Bharatanatyam competitions, the judge ‘Bhasker Hegde’ of that competition noticed her and introduced her to Kannada director ‘K. V. Jayaram’ who gave her the main role of young Rashmi in his film ‘Rashmi’ (1994).

At the age of 13, Sindhu was enacted to play the lead role in the Kannada film ‘Prema Prema Prema’ (1999).

She is fluent in various languages like Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, English, and Kannada.
