Controversies• After the 9/11 attacks in USA, he faced a problem at the Los Angeles airport due to his beard that he had grown for his role in the movie Kaante (2002), the officials thought him as a suspect. But, after he clarified that he was an Indian actor, they let him off.
• Suniel Shetty and casting director Mukesh Chhabra had a spat when they used to work together. Mukesh Chhabra used to work at Suniel Shetty’s premises located in Versova (Mumbai), but after spat, he shifted to film producer Vashu Bhagnani’s office building in Juhu in Mumbai suburbs.

  • Suniel belongs to a humble Tulu speaking Bunt family as his father used to clean plates in Worli, Mumbai as he initially worked as a waiter at a restaurant. His father’s boss called his father to manage his new business, and by 1943, his father had bought the whole building.
  • When film director Raju Mavani wanted to make Balwaan with him, most actresses were wary of working with Suniel and declined the offer as he was a newcomer. But late Divya Bharti agreed to work with him, which proved to be a wise decision as Balwaan became a hit.
  • The period from 1993 to 1994, was the golden phase of his acting career as he gave hits like Anth, Pehchaan and Waqt Hamara Hai, Mohra, and Dilwale.
