His father, Amin Chand was in Indian Army, he retired from Indian Army on 01.07.1980 and joined Chandigarh Police as a constable on 04.06.1981, later he was promoted to ASI on 25.08.1991.
His father, Amin Chand was killed in a blast at Sector-17, Chandigarh on 29.08.1991 during Punjab Militancy.
Jagwinder started his career by working for the newspaper, Indian Express. Later he worked for Jansatta, Amar Ujala and Dainik Bhaskar.
On 10th August 2005, he joined Star News, he was appointed as head correspondent of states- Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.
In 2008, he was promoted to Senior Editor in Star News and in 2015, he was promoted to Executive Editor.
In 2014, Jagwinder was heading a team of 200 employees of a Punjabi news channel, ABP Sanjha which was shut down due to virtual blackout. However, Jagwinder will be again leading the Punjabi news channel of ABP which is to be launched soon.
In August 2017, during the rape case of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, Jagwinder came into limelight with his brave and furious reporting along with Ankit Gupta from the ground-zero in Panchkula, Haryana.
