- Poonam Dhillon was born at Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh and brought up in Chandigarh.
- She has been a sports enthusiast since her childhood. She loves playing Basketball, Swimming, and Skating as well. She also was the sports captain at her school.
- The legendary Yash Chopra noticed Poonam’s talent and offered her a role in the movie Trishul in 1978 after she won the Miss Femina India and Miss Young India titles respectively in 1977 and 1978.
- She made her acting debut in 1978 when she was only 16 years old.
- Before winning the Miss Femina India, she never thought about to become an actress. It was the totally accidental moment for her to win this Beauty Pageant and got the invitation from Yash Chopra for the movie Trishul.
- She got popularity and film industry’s attention after the blockbuster hit of her second movie Noorie in 1979. She also received the Filmfare nomination for the best actress for her splendid performance in this movie.
