• Surender Sharma moved to New Delhi with his family when he was under the age of 10.

• Surender Sharma is famously known as ‘Chaar Laina wala poet’ (poet of four lines) as he recites his poetry in just four lines, especially in the Haryanvi and Marwari dialects.

• Surender Sharma started writing poetry in 1966 when he was studying in college.

• When he was studying in the second year of college, Surender Sharma became friends with a man named Prahlad who later started his own orchestra group. Surender was introduced in that group which made him famous among other students of the college.

• During his time in that group, Surender and his friends only used to make fun of each other through satirical comedy and that’s how his comic punches got strong.

• He failed his second year of college.

• Initially, he used to do mimicry of different people and also used to recite the writings of the Hindi satirist and humorist Kaka Hathrasi.

• He wrote his very first poetry in Rajasthani.

• In the 1970s, he started performing his poetry professionally.

• In 1980, T-Series released a cassette named ‘Char Line Wale Kavi’. That’s why people started calling him a four-line poet.

• In 2004, FM radio station, Red FM 93.5, started a daily show titled ‘Sharmaji Se Poocho’ (Ask Mr Sharma) featuring Surender Sharma. In this show, he gave prompt and humorous answers to callers’ questions.

• His famous starting line for many of his poems is ‘chaar lainaa suna ryo hoon’ which means ‘I’m going to recite four lines’ followed by ‘Ghar-aali kah rahi thi’ (wife was saying).
