• Sonia Malhar’s early career was as an insurance agent. One of her acquaintances during this time, a film camera operator, was instrumental in her entry into the film industry as a junior artist in 2012.

• Since the mid-2000s, she has worked actively as a social activist focusing on education, health care and poverty-stricken areas.

• She is the patron of the Kerala Blind Association (KBA), an NGO formed in 2007 for the welfare of the blind headquartered in Kozhikode, Kerala.
