Some Lesser Known Facts About Nupur Bora
- In 2018, Nupur Bora began working as a lecturer at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET).
- In 2016, she worked as an English teacher at a Government Higher Secondary School in Guwahati, Assam.
- Nupur Bora cleared the civil services examination in 2019.
- On 2 March 2019, she began working as an Assistant Commissioner of Karbi Anglong in Assam. She served in the position till 16 June 2023.
- On 18 June 2024, Nupur Bora started working as a Circle Officer at Barpeta in Assam.
- After that, she was posted to Goroimari, Kamrup.
- On 15 September 2025, Nupur Bora came into the limelight when a special vigilance cell conducted a raid at her residence in Guwahati, and cash worth Rs. 92 lakh and jewellery worth Rs. 2 crore were recovered from her home.
- After that, the police arrested her and accused her of possessing wealth which exceeded her declared income.
- Following her arrest, the chief minister of Assam said in the media that she had been monitored by the special investigation cell for six months due to complaints about her involvement in controversial land issues. He said,
This officer had transferred Hindu land to suspicious individuals in exchange for money when she was posted in the Barpeta revenue circle. We have taken strict action against her.”
- He added that when Nupur Bora was posted as the circle officer in Barpeta district, she passed the illegal registration of government and Satra land in the names of some illegal immigrants from the neighbouring country, Bangladesh. These include the Miya Muslims (also known as Bengali-speaking Muslims in Assam).
- Earlier, a local activist group named Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS), led by Akhil Gogoi, an MLA from Sivasagar, filed a formal complaint against Nupur Bora.
- In the complaint, it was noted that she had a detailed rate card for various land-related services. The bribe rate for land maps was Rs. 1500, and for adding or removing names in land records, she charged Rs. 2 lakh.
