• When Kim Mu-yeol was born, his grandfather gave him the name ‘Mu-yeol-wang.’ His grandfather hoped that Kim would one day serve the country and contribute to unite North and South Korea.

• He grew up in a humble family.

• In 1997, during his middle school days, the IMF financial crisis in the country affected his family too. His father’s health also became worse.

• During this period, he had to become the main earner of the family, so he put his dream of becoming a theater actor on hold.

• Kim Mu-yeol then took many part-time jobs to support his family financially. He also missed his school several times.

• His father, who used to work as a civil servant, opposed his acting dream. However, Kim secretly attended acting classes from middle school.

• After that, he took admission to Anyang Arts High School, where Kim acted as an old man in the play “Sins of this World.”

• From 2007 to 2008, he appeared in the television series “Chosun Police,” which aired on MBC Dramanet. He played the role of a young police officer, who worked in the investigation lab and helped in solving the criminal cases.

• However, some media reports claimed that during those years, he earned about ₩300 million by working in films, musicals, and television.

• In December 2009, he received his final military enlistment notice after using all 730 days of allowed postponement.

• In 2009, he gained attention when he played the role of a bond broker named Jo Min-hyung in the film The Scam. The film was produced by Silk Road and directed by Lee Ho-jae.

• Kim Mu-yeol then made headlines when he received the Best Actor award at the 2009 Korea Musical Awards for his role Melchior in the rock musical Spring Awakening. The play showed various topics such as teenage pregnancy, sexual and physical abuse, and homosexuality.

• He then appeared in many theatre musicals, such as The Three Musketeers (2011), Gwanghwamun Love Song (2012), Kinky Boots (2014), Gone Tomorrow (2016), and Thrill Me (2017).

• In 2009, he lent his voice to the song “Mandy” in the film Wife Returns.

• In January 2010, Kim Mu-yeol requested to change his military status because of a knee injury, but the request was rejected. Later, he received an exemption because he was considered a low-income person and the only provider for his family.

• In August 2013, he was transferred to a frontline combat unit of the 12th Infantry Division in Inje County, Gangwon Province, after the entertainment soldiers unit of military was shut down.

• In February 2014, Kim Mu-yeol underwent surgery for a cartilage injury in his left knee. He received treatment for two months at a military hospital in Seoul.
