• Brishti Mukherjee is known for being the niece of former Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee.

• On 1 September 2026, she made headlines when she was found dead at her family home in village Kusumba, Rampurhat, district Birbhum, West Bengal.

• Her father, Nihar Mukherjee, is the maternal cousin of Mamata Banerjee and a local Trinamool Congress leader.

• According to police, Brishti Mukherjee was found hanging inside her house.

• After that, the police sent her body to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

• In March 2023, the Calcutta High Court cancelled the appointments of about 26,000 teaching and non-teaching staff members in state-aided schools in West Bengal.

• The court found irregularities in the recruitment process.
