• Abu was born into a middle-class Bengali Hindu family.

• After meeting his Muslim wife, he got inclined towards Islam. Soon after, he converted to Islam and changed his name from “Siddhartha Dhar” to “Abu Rumaysah al-Britani”, which means “Father of Rumaysah.”

• After converting, he became an active member of al-Muhajiroun network, a group banned in the UK. In order to find new followers to join al-Muhajiroun, he used to search outside mosques on Friday afternoons, and post videos online. 

• When he was in the United Kingdom, he used to live in Walthamstow in east London, where he was a salesman for a bouncy castle company.

• In 2014, he shifted to Syria after skipping police bail in the United Kingdom.

• After joining ISIS in Syria, he became a senior commander after replacing Mohammed Emwazi a.k.a. Jihadi John, who was killed in a drone attack. 

• In Syria, he carries out the execution of western hostages in IS propaganda.

• In 2015, he wrote a book called “A Brief Guide to Islamic State”, a travel guide to Syria.
