  • In the early 1970s, his parents moved from Andhra Pradesh, India, to Flint, Michigan, United States. They came to the United States to practise medicine.
  • As a child, Bobby Mukkamala used to play on the grounds of Hurley Medical Centre, where his mother, Sumathi Mukkamala, worked as a doctor.
  • His immigrant physician parents inspired him to choose a career in medicine. Once, during a media conversation, he shared his inspiration to pursue a medical career. He said,

    My parents moved to this country with their medical education and not much else. I chose to go into medicine to expand on their success by going back to my hometown of Flint and serving the community that welcomed them decades ago.”

  • In 1997, Bobby Mukkamala became a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology (Head and Neck Surgery).
  • In 2000, he began practising as an Otolaryngologist, i.e. a Head and Neck Surgeon in his hometown of Flint, Michigan.
  • In 2009, Bobby Mukkamala was elected to the American Medical Association (AMA) Council on Science and Public Health.
