Some Lesser Known Facts About Dileep Raj

During his college days, Dileep loved dancing and initially thought choreography could become his career.

While in college, he met Nandita, who was part of a stage play. He was first offered a minor role, but after the lead actor fell ill, Dileep replaced him at the last minute. He also won the Best Actor award for it.

Dileep’s performance in the play earned him great reognition, and he later joined theatre groups like Nataranga and Drishti. Being part of theatrical productions helped him enter the Kannada television industry.

Dileep received Rs. 500 for his first acting role which made him seriously think about acting as a career.

He appeared in many television series, including DD Chandana’s ‘Ardha Sathya’ (2004), Udaya TV’s ‘Kumkuma Bhagya’ (2004), Udaya TV’s ‘Rangoli’ (2005), ETV Kannada’s ‘Preetigaagi’ (2007), and Zee Kannada’s ‘Vidya Vinayaka’ (2017).

He worked as a dubbing artist for films like ‘Srusti’ (2004), ‘Olave’ (2005), ‘Anthu Inthu Preethi Banthu’ (2008), and ‘Parichaya’ (2009).

In an interview, he once said that being asked to dub for other actors despite being an actor himself hurt him deeply. He added that he founded it emotionally difficult because acting remained his main passion.

Dileep made his debut in Kannada film industry with ‘Boyfriend’ (2005). He gained recognition through his performance as ‘Hemanth’ in the romantic comedy drama film ‘Milana’ (2007).

In 2014, Dileep launched a production house named ‘DR Creations’ with his wife, Srividya.

He also worked as a director for television shows like Colors Kannada’s ‘Majaa Bharatha’ (2017) and Zee Kannada’s ‘Brahmagantu’ (2024).

Dileep believed his strong television presence made it difficult for filmmakers to see him as a film hero. He often admitted that weak PR and his habit of quietly leaving after shoots instead of networking may have affected his career.

Dileep wanted to retire at 50 and spend the rest of his life at the farmhouse he had built in Ramanagara, Karnataka.
