  • Dinesh Singh Rana was commissioned into the 10th Battalion of the Garhwal Rifles on 19 December 1987 and later commanded the same battalion during his career.
  • He studied at the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla and completed higher military education at institutions in Wellington, New Delhi, Madrid, and the National Defence University in the USA.
  • He served in operational missions with the Indian Military Training Team and with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon during his early and mid-level postings.
  • He commanded an Infantry Brigade and a Division in the Eastern Sector, and later led the Gajraj Corps along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
  • He worked as an instructor at the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, and Higher Command Wing at Army War College, Mhow.
  • He has served as Brigade Major of an Armoured Brigade, Deputy Director General Staff Duties, Brigadier Military Intelligence (East), Provost Marshal, and Director General Staff Duties.

  • He was awarded the Sena Medal and COAS Commendation early in his career for service in Kashmir and later received Yudh Seva Medal, AVSM, and PVSM.
