  • During her childhood, one of Marissa Bode’s friends introduced her to the ‘Wicked’ musical but belonging and living in a rural area of Wisconsin, Marissa never got the chance to actually see the musical.
  • At the age of just eight, Marissa Bode started doing local community theatre plays and her first ever experience of her acting was when she was selected to play the character of a little orphan in Prince and the Pauper novel play. She only had a two-liner dialogue in the play.
  • Eventually, Marissa got interested in acting more and more and decided to pursue it full-time. She continued to perform in local productions throughout middle and high school.
  • During her middle and high school days, she performed in many stage musicals and some of them were local productions such as ‘Little Shop of Horrors,’ ‘Peter Pan,’ and ‘Mary Poppins.’

  • When Marissa Bode was just 11 years old, she met with a car accident which resulted in her being paralyzed from the waist down. However, her disability never stopped her from pursuing her passion for acting.
  • In 2019, she was cast in the American short film titled ‘No Roles Written’ in which she played the character of Kalliope.
  • She began her acting program at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and she gave auditions for the American epic musical fantasy film titled ‘Wicked’ a year after graduating college.
  • In 2021, Marissa directed and produced an American short film titled ‘You’re Adorable’ which was also accepted to the 2021 Wisconsin Film Festival.
  • In 2024, Marissa Bode was cast in the American epic musical fantasy film titled ‘Wicked’ which was a two-part film adaptation of the stage musical of the same name by Stephen Schwartz and Holzman which in turn was loosely based on the 1995 novel of the same name by Gregory Maguire.

  • Marissa performed her own stunts in the film ‘Wicked’ which was one of her favourite parts. Sharing her experience of the same, she was quoted saying in an interview that

    I loved being in the air. They put me in the harness and started out really slow and I was like, ‘Please go faster. This is so fun.”

  • She was the first actress living with a disability to be cast and play her character in the film adaptation of ‘Wicked’ on the big screen because anyone who has ever played her character in the plays has been able-bodied. She was quoted saying in an interview that

    Not even just for myself, but that’s going to mean so much to other little girls and boys in wheelchairs and to have that representation for them to see, and that authenticity.”
