He was born into a family which was not economically sufficient. His father had a poultry farm which provided for the daily bread for his family.
In his childhood, his friends used to call him Koka which meant Hen, due to his father having poultry farm.
He started playing football when he was just 6 years old and would travel 20 km each day to the academy.
Ivan’s parents made huge sacrifices for him. His parents were not able to afford the Academy’s fees and hence his father had to sell poultry farm stocks to make sure Ivan gets proper football guidance.
He joined Hajduk Split when he was 10 years old.
In 2006, he moved to the French club, Sochaux. He was then loaned to the Belgium club, Roeselare and then further moved to Club Brugge. With Club Brugge, he surged to new heights.
The scouts from Dortmund saw Ivan’s talent and purchased him on a five-year contract with him.
He made his debut for the club against Hamburger SV on 5 August 2011.
He was part of the Croatian squad for the UEFA 2012 Euro.
The 2012-2013 Season took a downturn for him. He found his first-team opportunities getting limited and told a Croatian channel that he wasn’t supported by the manager, Jurgen Klopp and accused him of favouring other players. This was not taken well by the coach and Perisic was imposed a fine for his comments.
On 6 January 2013, he joined VfL Wolfsburg. He scored his first goal for the side in a friendly against Standard Liège on 10 January 2013.
On 14 May 2014, he was named in the 23-man squad for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
Ivan signed with Italian club Inter Milan on 30 August 2015 on a five-year contract. He made his debut for the club just three days after joining the club.
He was Croatia’s top goalscorer in Euro 2016 qualifying tournament, scoring six goals in nine matches.
In 2017, Ivan made his debut in international Beach Volleyball in the Porec Major tournament, partnering with Niksa Dellorco. They lost their first game and were knocked out of the tournament.
Perisic represented Croatia in the 2018 FIFA World Cup 2018. He played a very key role in the success of Croatia in the World Cup. He scored in the semi-finals against England; taking his team to the final of the World Cup.
