• Riya Kumari was an Indian actress, who predominantly worked in regional films in Jharkhand.

• She started her career at the age of 22. She appeared in various films in Jharkhand’s regional language Khortha.

• She appeared in many films including Picture Abhi Baki Hai (2019), Tere Bin (2019), Laajo (2019), and Mor Jaan (2019).

• She was popular for her dancing skills and appeared in many music videos on Youtube.

• On 28 December 2022, Riya was shot dead when she was travelling to Kolkata with her husband and daughter. They were driving through National Highway 16 when her husband stopped the car at around 6 am to take a short break. According to her husband, they were attacked by a gang of three men who were trying to steal from them. She was shot dead while trying to save her husband from the goons. After being shot, she was taken to hospital by her husband and was admitted to SCC Medical College and Hospital in Uluberia, where she was declared dead.

• According to the police, they are investigating her husband. In an interview, the police said,
  

  We have spoken to the husband, and since the daughter is too young we may talk to her later as we do not want to cause her more trouble. We will also speak to the locals whom the man approached for help.”
