• Aditi Swami is an Indian archer who made history in 2023 by becoming the youngest senior world champion and the first Indian to clinch an individual compound gold at the World Archery Championships.

• Aditi’s success in archery can be largely attributed to her father, Gopichand. To offer her improved access to sports facilities, he took the decision to move from their village to Satara, a journey of approximately 15 kilometres. According to Gopichand, he wanted Aditi to stand out in a sport. ^[2]The Times of India

• When she was 12, her father took her to Satara’s Shahu Stadium and exposed her to various sports. While many children were drawn to football and athletics, Aditi was captivated by a small group of archers setting up targets. Shortly thereafter, she started training under coach Pravin Sawant at an archery academy situated in a sugarcane field. She practised for three hours during weekdays and dedicated over five hours on weekends. In an interview, Gopichand revealed how he further nurtured her passion by showing her videos of famous archers, including 2010 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Deepika Kumari and Asian Games gold medalist Abhishek Verma. ^[3]The Times of India

• Aditi competed at the 2023 World Archery Youth Championships in Limerick, Ireland. She won gold after defeating USA’s Leann Drake by 142-136 under the compound under-18 women’s individual category; she won gold under the compound under-18 women’s team category as well at the event.

• In 2023, Aditi Swami participated in the World Archery Championships in Berlin, competing in the compound women’s category. She defeated Mexico’s Andrea Becerra with a margin of 149-147 and won gold, becoming the first athlete to claim India’s first individual title at the 2023 Hyundai World Archery Championships. Aditi also secured gold in the compound women’s team category at the same event.
