- Tanush Kotian’s family hails from Pangala village in Udupi district of Karnataka.
- He was interested in cricket since childhood. He often went to cricket grounds to watch his father play cricket.
- He later started training under his father.
- In the 2017 Under-19 Naren Tamhane Trophy, during a match against Dilip Vengsarkar Academy, he took 4 wickets for 16 runs and scored 110 runs in 159 balls, helping them to draw the game.
- He played for India Under-19 in the 2017 Asia Cup held in Malaysia.
- On 22 December 2018, he made his Ranji debut for Mumbai against Saurashtra in Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, ending in a draw match. He scored 1 run, took 2 wickets for 81 runs in the first innings, made 3 runs not out, and went wicketless for 59 runs in the second innings.
- Kotian made his Vijay Hazare Trophy debut on 9 March 2021 for Mumbai against Saurashtra in Delhi. He took 1 wicket for 30 runs.
- On 4 November 2021, he played his debut match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) for Mumbai against Karnataka. He went wicketless for 25 runs.
- Tanush Kotian made headlines for his performance in the 2022 SMAT final in which he played for Mumbai, that won by defeating Himachal Pradesh.
- In February 2024, he and Tushar Deshpande were batting at 10th and 11th batting positions respectively against Baroda during a 2023-2024 Ranji Trophy match. He scored 120 runs not out and Deshpande scored 123 runs, becoming the first cricketers to score centuries at 10th and 11th position.
- He won the Player of the Series Award in the 2023-2024 Ranji Trophy for scoring 502 runs at an average of 41.83 and taking 29 wickets in the tournament due to which Mumbai won the tournament for a record 42nd time. He won Rs 2.5 lakh cash price along with the award.
- He went unsold during the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction but Rajasthan Royals (RR) later acquired him for his base price of Rs 20 lakhs as a replacement player for Adam Zampa.
- He made his IPL debut on 13 April 2024 for RR against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Mullanpur, Mohali. He made 24 runs off 31 balls at a strike rate of 77.41.
- His debut made headlines as he was sent to open the innings alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal despite never batting above batting position 7 in any first-class match.
