Controversies | Ed Joyce Runout On 17 July 2016, Afghanistan was playing an ODI match against Ireland at Stormont, Belfast. While fielding, Nabi stopped the ball and threw it towards the wicket-keeper due to which Ireland Batsman Ed Joyce was run out. Since the match did not have a TV replay feature, umpires asked Nabi if he crossed the boundary to which he replied that the ball was inside the ground, and he had not touched the boundary rope. [1]Belfast Telegraph Later, photographs showed that Nabi had crossed the boundary rope after which many fans criticised him as a cheater. He was given a warning for violation of Level 1 Article 2.1.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel which relates to "conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game". Given 1 demerit point In March 2017, he was playing a test match against Ireland in Noida, India. During the first innings of Ireland, he appealed for a caught-out for Andy Balbirnie while the umpires clearly saw that the ball had already touched the ground. Nabi's actions were considered opposite to the spirit of the game after which he was given 1 demerit point. |
