ControversiesThe Poker Incident
In March 2016, Max was fined £20,000 by his then club VfL Wolfsburg for playing Poker. Max is an avid Poker player and he participated in a World Series Poker tournament in Berlin. He won £60,000 prize money in the tournament but while on his way back, he lost the prize money in the backseat of a taxi. He filed a police complaint but the money was never recovered. Controversy on his 28th Birthday
When Max was celebrating his 28th birthday in a nightclub in Berlin, he saw a woman taking pictures of him with her mobile phone. Seeing this he got angry and he took away her phone from the woman and deleted his pictures. That woman was a journalist who made that news viral the next day. In 2013, Max Kruse was caught with a lady escort in his room while he was on international duty with the German National football team. He was staying in the hotel with the team when the incident happened.   • On 10 May 2015, Max joined VfL Wolfsburg on a four-year deal after the club activated his release clause of €12 million. He made his debut for the club against Bayern Munich in the 2015 DFL Supercup on 1 August 2015 after coming as a substitute in the 70th minute.
  • In 2016, the VfL Wolfsburg club management advised Max to avoid eating Nutella for breakfast after the club noticed it. The club expected its players to stay in good shape and follow a strict diet routine.
  • Due to disciplinary issues, Max was dropped from the German National football team which took part in the 2014 Fifa World Cup and 2016 UEFA Euro tournament.

  • In the 2018-19 season, Max received an offer from Liverpool FC’s coach Jürgen Klopp who wanted him to join them as a backup striker. The deal collapsed as Liverpool later won the UEFA Champions League that season and kept Divock Origi as the backup. Max joined the Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK next season.
  • On New Year’s Eve 2019, Max performed in the Turkish version of the musical talent show ‘The Voice.’
