  • His father, a former Haryana Police inspector, died by suicide in a train accident in 2005.
  • On 6 October 2025, head constable Sushil Kumar, who worked with IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, was arrested by Rohtak Police for allegedly asking for a Rs. 2.5 lakh bribe in Puran Kumar’s name from a liquor contractor, Praveen Bansal.

  • On 7 October 2025, IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar shot himself at his home in Chandigarh.

  • During the investigation, police found a suicide note in his pocket. He named some top IAS and IPS officers and accused them of caste-based discrimination and mental harassment.

  • On 14 October 2025, Sandeep Lather, who was working as an assistant sub-inspector, was found dead in a room near a field in Ladhot village, Rohtak.

  • Before his death, Sandeep recorded a video in which he accused Y. Puran Kumar and his gunman, Sushil Kumar, of corruption.

  • During investigations, the police confirmed that Sandeep Lather played an important role in the arrest of head constable Sushil Kumar.

  • Before his death, Sandeep lived with his maternal uncle in Ladhot village and worked in the cyber cell of Rohtak Police.

  • In his last video, he said,

    The people will wake when we walk on truth. A corrupt officer [referring to Y Puran Kumar] has taken money to exclude some names in a murder case registered at Sadar police station and he fixed a deal of Rs 50 crore to take out the name of Rao Inderjit [a Gurugram based businessman]. Narendra Bijarniya is an honest officer who stood against him. Bijarniya is bearing his expenses from his salary and he has helped the cops. The IG started targeting cops on the basis of caste and he started giving posts to corrupt persons from his community.”

  • After Sandeep’s death, his cousin Sheeshpal spoke to the media. He said that Sandeep’s eldest daughter was preparing for the NEET exam. His second daughter was studying in class 9, and his son was in class 4.
  • Sheeshpal said that since Y. Puran Kumar’s body was kept in Chandigarh, Sandeep’s body would be kept in Julana. He also said that the family would file a case against people who called themselves supporters of Y. Puran Kumar.
