- Shubham Kumar was born and raised in a middle-class family in Gaya, Bihar.
- His father runs a hardware shop in Gaya, and his mother is a homemaker.
- He has been a brilliant student from a young age. He completed his schooling in a private school in Gaya. In his 10th grade, he scored 98.5 percent on the marks.
- In an interview, Shubham mentioned that after 10th grade, he followed a disciplined daily routine and, instead of balancing multiple streams of study, he mainly focused on JEE preparation.
- In 2024, Shubham moved to Kota, Rajasthan, and enrolled at the Allen Career Institute for JEE preparation. In an interview, Shubham revealed that his family faced financial difficulties when he moved to Kota. However, with careful planning and strong determination, the situation improved, allowing him to continue his studies without interruption.
- In an interview, Kumar mentioned that during crucial preparation periods, he studied for 10–12 hours a day, and sometimes extended up to 14 hours during intensive revision and test phases.
- In February 2026, Shubham Kumar scored a perfect 100th percentile in the JEE Main 2026 exam. He is one of only 12 students nationwide to achieve a perfect percentile in JEE Main 2026 Session 1.
- Shubham was the only student from Bihar in the 100th percentile group. He is the topper of Bihar and ranked third in India.

I am pretty much satisfied with my score in my first attempt in JEE Main. But I will give it another try in the 2nd round, which will possibly take place in April this year. I am preparing for the exam with full determination.”
