Some Lesser Known Facts About Akhilesh Reddy
- Bodugum Akhilesh Reddy was born in Hyderabad, India where he learned his cricketing skills from a young age.
- He was part of a Vijay Hazare Trophy squad along with working as a net bowler for IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
- Later, he turned to American cricket to seek his fortune in international cricket.
- His debut international game for the USA was in April 2025 against the Cayman Islands in the T20 Cup in North America.
- He has since featured in four T20Is for USA and netted one wicket in the process.
- Meanwhile, another USA cricketer, Aaron Jones, was having some issues. Jones was a member of the USA team that advanced to the Super Eight stage on the team’s T20 World Cup debut in 2024.
- He was then provisionally suspended in 2023-24 season over alleged fixing in Bim10 league in Barbados for not disclosing a corrupt approach and for not cooperating in the investigation.
- Reddy’s own story dates back to the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament in the UAE where he appeared in two matches for the Aspin Stallions.
- ICC was handling anti-corruption issues for that tournament at the behest of the Emirates Cricket Board.
- Reddy has approached the Assistant Club Captain (Player A) who was playing with the Aspin Stallions just prior to the opening game, on 19 November 2025, and requested him to give runs while bowling.
- The tribunal said this was a “directive” from the team management. Player A declined to do so and complained to the ICC Anti Corruption Unit.
- He was dropped from the playing XI soon after. Investigators later also sifted through Reddy’s phone and found that he had deleted WhatsApp calls with Player A and had deleted WhatsApp chats, prior to the probe.
- According to Reddy, this was something normal to do when it came to data cleansing but it was not accepted by the tribunal and decided that Reddy had intentionally destroyed evidence.
- He was provisionally suspended on 21 November 2025, and given 14 days to respond to the charges.
- He was charged in three counts. One was trying to tamper with or mislead the outcome, development or play of a game. Another was getting a fellow competitor to do likewise. The third one was blocking the investigation by deleting data from his phone.
- The ICC Anti Corruption Tribunal comprising three members, declared its finding on 3 August 2026 and found Reddy guilty on all three counts.
- He is now banned from all forms of cricket, for eight years, which will run back to 21 November 2025 until 21 November 2033.
- This was the second time this year an USA international has been caught under the anti corruption code.
