Controversies | The Sexual Assault Allegation: In January 2021, singer Renu Sharma filed a rape complaint against Dhananjay Munde. However, she later withdrew the complaint. Munde later addressed the allegations and denied the claims. In a press conference, he revealed that he had been in a long-term relationship with Renu Sharma's sister, Karuna Sharma. He stated that they had two children together and that his wife Rajshri Munde and family were fully aware of this. His revelation shifted the focus of the controversy and raised questions about personal relationships and political ehtics. While the legal case against him did not move forward, the situation created a major political storm at that time. [1]The Hindu Legal Disputes Over Marriage and Maintenance: In 2022, politician Karuna Sharma filed a case under the Domestic Violence Act, accusing Dhananjay Munde of emotional and physical abuse. She demanded Rs. 5 lakh per month in maintenance for herself and their children, along with Rs. 25 crore in compensation. In February 2025, a Bandra magistrate court ruled that Munde refusing to acknowledge their marriage and not living as her husband caused Karuna emotional harm. The court also ordered him to pay Rs. 2 lakh per month as interim maintenance. However, in March 2025 Munde challenged this ruling in a sessions court and argued that the Domestic Violence Act did not apply since they never shared a household. He also claimed that Sharma was financially independent and owned properties in Mumbai and Indore. [2]Hindustan Times Allegations of Financial Misconduct: In 2023, as Maharashtra's Agriculture Minister, Dhananjay Munde faced allegations of corruption related to Rs. 88 crore in bogus crop insurance claims and other irregularities. He was accused of approving overpriced purchases and ignoring proper procedures, which led to financial loses. Despite these claims, Munde denied any wrongdoing and maintained that all decisions followed government rules. [3]The Hindu Sarpanch Murder Case: In March 2025, Dhananjay Munde faced trouble when his close aide, Walmik Karad, was accused of planning the brutal murder of Beed sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh. The case, which involved allegations of abduction and torture, shocked the public as disturbing videos and photos surfaced online. As outrage grew, people started demanding Munde's resignation from his position as Maharashtra's Minister of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection. At first, he refused to step down, but when the charge sheet revealed shocking details about the case, the pressure increased. Eventually, Munde resigned from his post and mentioned health concern as the reason. However, many believed he quit because of the controversy and public outrage. [4]The Indian Express |
