  • In 1990, Sharmila worked as an anchor to a quiz shows on Jaya TV (formerly JJ TV). Later, she conducted a talk show Indha Vaaram Ivar, where she interviewed celebrities.
  • In 1996, she worked as a house surgeon at Government Royapettah Hospital, Chennai.
  • She has worked in various television serials such as Jannal-Marabu Kavithaigal (2000) as Gomathi aired on Raj TV, Irandaam Chanaakiyan (2000) aired on Sun TV, Agni Saatchi (2002) as Nila aired on Vijay TV and Roja (2018) as Shenbagam aired on Sun TV.
