  • Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri was born and raised in Marrakesh Morocco into and family connected to public service, where her father, Abderrahmane El Mansouri served as a pasha (deputy governor) of Marrakesh and later as Morocco’s ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.
  • Influenced by her father from a young age and watching his arguments in court, she studied law in France and United States.
  • She earned a degree in private law from Mohammed V University, Rabat, Morocco. Later she earned Diplôme d’études approfondies (DEA) in Business Contract Law from the University of Montpellier, France.
  • She also earned a certificate in Anglo-Saxon from Pace University in New York.
  • In 2005, El Mansouri started her career as a lawyer in Marrakesh Bar. She also founded a law firm that specializes in commercial and real estate transactions.
  • In 2007, she entered politics by joining the Mouvement de Tous les Démocrates (MTD), a political movement that later helped lead to the creation of the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM).
  • In 2008, Fatima became one of the founding members of PAM.
  • In 2009, she won a seat on the Marrakesh city council and was elected as mayor of Marrakesh. After her win she became the first woman to hold the city’s mayoral position.
  • Her first mayoral election faced a legal challenge over the voting process. A tribunal court annulled Fatima’s elelction after the Front of Democratic Forces (FFD) filed a complaint about irregularities in the voting process.
  • In September 2009, El Mansouri challenged the court’s decision. The Administrative Court of Appeal in Marrakesh overturned the earlier decision and declared her election valid.
  • Shortly after becoming mayor, she said she wanted to lead by example and transferred her mayoral salary to municipal official’s expenses.
  • In 2011, she entered Morocco’s national politics after winning a seat in the House of Representatives.
