- Gurdeep comes from a family of kabaddi players. His father, Sanjay Kumar, is a kabaddi coach; he trained players from the Border Security Force (BSF). Gurdeep’s uncle Sukhvir Singh Sangwan is a former member of the Indian National Kabaddi Team. Growing up, Gurdeep, alongside his brother Nitesh Kumar, played kabaddi under the mentorship of their father. The brothers witnessed their uncle Sukhvir Singh Sangwan winning the prestigious gold medal in Kabaddi at the 2006 Asian Games, inspiring them to pursue a sports career.
- His brother, Nitesh Kumar, is an accomplished kabaddi player who represents UP Yoddha in the Pro Kabaddi League. During season 6, Nitesh achieved a remarkable feat by becoming the first player in the league’s history to collect 100 tackle points in a single campaign.
