  • Harris Dickinson grew up in the Highams Park district of the London Borough of Waltham Forest, England.

  • Inclined towards acting at a young age, Harris Dickinson decided to pursue film and theatre in school. From the age of 11 to 17, Harris attended the performing arts club called the Raw Academy in Walthamstow.
  • He was also interested in Royal Marines and joined the cadets for four years. At the age of 17, when Harris was all set to join the senior ranks, his coach at RAW Academy persuaded him to pursue a career in theatre.
  • A year later, he landed a role in Pauline McLynn’s play Angels at the National Theatre in Southbank.
  • Harris then enrolled for a film studies course at college. However, he did not enjoy doing the assignments there and once had an argument with a teacher, which led him to drop out of the course.
  • Dickinson then began working part-time at a bar, picking up litter. He also briefly worked as a sales assistant in the clothing store Hollister Co to meet his expenses. Talking about it in an interview, he said,

    I remember, I’d be in the basement folding clothes and I’d get a call from an unknown number. And an unknown number always meant it was my agent. So every time, I thought: This is it! I’m out of here!’ And I’d rush upstairs and listen to the voicemail and they’d be like: Yeah, you didn’t get it.”

  • After some time, he moved to East London, where he worked at a hotel, saving up money to finance his trips to Los Angeles to audition for pilot season. In an interview, while talking about it, he said,

    I got some pilot and I told the hotel: ‘Sorry, guys, that’s me! I’m off to Hollywood! Then two months later I had to waddle back in and ask for my job back.”
