  • Harry Lawtey grew up in Cyprus after moving from the United Kingdom when he was 4. He moved with his family due to his father’s job transfer as a military aircraft engineer.
  • Harry spent most of his childhood from ages 5 to 13 living on a British military base in Cyprus.
  • As a child, Harry would accompany his father to the airfield, where he learned about preparing rescue helicopters. He became familiar with the routine of safety checks, all under his father’s supervision.
  • After school, Harry would go to the beach, explore the country, make friends outside the base, and learn Greek.
  • When Harry was 13, he played the role of ‘Artful Dodger’ in the school play Oliver! at a local amphitheatre in Cyprus. It was during this performance that Harry realised he wanted to become an actor.
  • After watching the play Oliver!, Harry’s father and other family members suggested he audition for the Sylvia Young Theatre School in London even though it was difficult for them to afford it. Harry was so excited to try that he went to the audition during a family holiday and got selected.
  • Harry then moved to London to attend Sylvia Young Theatre School and lived with a host family in Abbey Wood. He used to visit his extended family in Barton-upon-Humber on weekends.
  • At the Sylvia Young Theatre School, he used to study academics from Monday to Wednesday and focused on singing, dancing, and acting on Thursdays and Fridays, which let him join the school’s agency and start working.
  • Harry later attended the Drama Centre London. During this time, he lived on Camden Town’s streets with a friend from Cyprus.
