• Irma Testa was raised by her parents in a middle-class Italian household.

• Irma Testa started attending the gym and training at the age of twelve. She only wanted to follow her older sister Lucia, who used to train at the Boxe Vesuviana gym.

• Irma met coach Lucio Zurlo, who was the owner of the Italian boxing club Boxe Vesuviana, at the gym while she was doing a workout session.

• She started participating in professional competitions at the age of 15.

• In 2012, Irma made her junior championship debut and took part in the European Boxing Confederation (EUBC) Junior Championship in Władysławowo, Poland, in which she took part in the 50kg category.

• In 2015, Irma Testa was enlisted in the State Police and became part of the Fiamme Oro Sports Group, which was the sports group of the State Police.

• She was nicknamed Butterfly for her agility and graceful movements during her matches.

• As of 2016, Irma Testa was considered one of the strongest under-20 boxers in the world.

• In April 2016, Irma got qualified to play in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, which made her become the first Italian boxer to compete in the Olympic Games.

• In the same year, she finally made her Olympic debut at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, in which she reached the quarter-finals but was defeated by the French boxer Estelle Mossely.

• In 2018, Italian filmmakers Alessandro Cassigoli and Casey Kauffman made an Italian documentary film titled ‘Butterfly,’ which showcased the path she took which led her to become the first Italian woman to participate in the Olympic Games.

• In the same year, Irma participated in the 2018 AIBA Women’s World Amateur Boxing Championships, which was held in New Delhi, India. She was eliminated in the round of 16 by English player Paige Murney.

• In 2021, Irma came out and declared her homosexuality. She was quoted as saying in an interview that
  

  Speaking of sexual orientation in the world of sport has a special value, because champions are expected to be perfect. And for many homosexuality is still an imperfection. The people who are close to me have known for years but I think it is right to tell everyone now.”

• In the same year, she wrote the preface of a novel for children titled ‘Non fate rabbiare Petra.’

• Irma Testa took part in the 2024 Paris Olympics but was eliminated in her first match, in the round of 32, by Chinese player Xu Zichun.

• In 2025, Irma Testa took part in the first edition of the Italian reality TV show titled ‘The Couple – Una vittoria per due,’ in which she was paired up with her sister Lucia Testa. The TV series was telecast on the Channel 5 TV channel.
