Controversies | • Booked Under Various Sections of IPC: His affidavit for the 2021 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections mentions an FIR registered against him at the Maloya Police Station, which is dated 5 April 2015. The councillors were forcibly removed by marshals after they tried to hurt MC officers and destroyed various properties at the general house. The incident took place when the Congress and BJP councillors demanded an apology from the AAP councillors for terming them ‘thieves’ and ‘corrupts’ during a press conference. - Kuldeep Kumar’s father moved from Uttar Pradesh to Chandigarh in the early 1990s for a clerical job with the Haryana government.

On 20 February 2024, the SC overruled the January 30 results and declared Kuldeep Kumar as the new mayor.
