Controversies	• Booked Under Various Sections of IPC: His affidavit for the 2021 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation elections mentions an FIR registered against him at the Maloya Police Station, which is dated 5 April 2015. In the FIR, he is charged under sections 147, 148, 149, 336 IPC and 25-54-59, 27 of the Arms Act 1959. The councillors were forcibly removed by marshals after they tried to hurt MC officers and destroyed various properties at the general house. The incident took place when the Congress and BJP councillors demanded an apology from the AAP councillors for terming them ‘thieves’ and ‘corrupts’ during a press conference. Apparently, AAP spokesperson Malwinder Singh Kang, along with other AAP councillors, had accused BJP and Congress of making money from the Dadumajra garbage dump and called them ‘thieves’ and ‘corrupts’ at a press conference. • Kuldeep Kumar won the 2021 Chandigarh Municipal Corporation election from Ward No. 26, defeating BJP’s sitting councillor and former Mayor Rajesh Kalia.

• After that, he was employed as the Medical Officer of the Health wing of the Municipal Corporation.

• On 30 January 2024, BJP candidate Manoj Sonkar won the Chandigarh mayor election, defeating Kuldeep Kumar, the AAP-Congress alliance candidate. Sonkar had secured 16 votes, while Kuldeep got 12 out of the total 36 votes.

  AAP challenged the result, claiming that returning officer Anil Masih had unfairly invalidated 8 votes in favour of Kumar. AAP first approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court and later appealed to the Supreme Court, with videos that proved vote tampering by the returning officer. On 20 February 2024, the SC overruled the January 30 results and declared Kuldeep Kumar as the new mayor.
