Controversy	Taken into custody under Special Powers Act Meghna Alam was detained under the Special Powers Act, 1974 after an appeal by the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on 10 April 2025. Authorities stated that Alam was detained for spreading misinformation which was harmful to Bangladesh's diplomatic relations and economic interests with Saudi Arabia. Her arrest occurred during a live Facebook session, which was later deleted from social media. The way in which she was arrested shocked the audience and the authorities were criticized for their actions. Later, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Department clarified that the reports were inaccurate. Thereafter, the top Detective Branch official was removed from his post. Asif Nazrul, Muhammad Yunus-led interim government's legal advisor, informed that taking the actress into custody under the Special Powers Act was a mistake. After the day of her arrest, she was presented in front of the court, where she was sentenced to 30 days in prison. According to sources, she claimed in her the now deleted Facebook live session that she was in a relationship with a diplomat who was married. This statement led to the trouble.
