• Nitai Roy Chowdhury was born and raised in Hatbaria village, Mohammadpur Upazila, Magura District, Dhaka.

• During his time at the University of Dhaka, he actively participated in student politics and activism.

• In 1988, Roy was first elected to parliament from the Magura-2 constituency on a Jatiya Party ticket.

• Later, he served as the Minister of Education as well as the Minister of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs in the government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

• From 9 September 1990 to 6 December 1990, Nitai served as the minister of Youth and Sports.

• Before joining the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he served as the Chairperson of Magura District Council.

• In 2001, Nitai joined BNP and stood as a candidate of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in Magura-1. However, he could not make a win.

• In 2005, BNP in Magura district was divided into two groups, one led by Quazi Kamal and the other by Nitai Roy Chowdhury, where they both were involved in an internal party political conflict.

• In 2015, he represented Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in a money laundering case.

• In 2018, Nitai Roy represented his daughter, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, in three cases filed over clashes between the Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists and the Bangladesh Police. During that time, Chowdhury petitioned the High Court Division for the withdrawal of thousands of cases filed by the government against the Bangladesh Nationalist Party and other opposition party politicians.

• In the 2018 Bangladesh general election, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party nominated him for the parliamentary election. He ran unsuccessfully.

• In 2021, Roy was a part of a delegation of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party that met with Minister of Law Anisul Huq to ask about sending former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment. Roy also served as an advisor to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

• In July 2023, Nitai was a part of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party rally led by the Awami League government that demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

• In February 2026, Roy won the Magura-2 parliamentary seat in the 2026 national elections for the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, defeating his rival by a huge margin.

• After the BNP victory in the 2026 national election, Nitai Roy was sworn in as the minister of Cultural Affairs in Tarique Rahman‘s cabinet and member of parliament from Magura-2 constituency on 17 February 2026.
