Some Lesser Known Facts About Saini S. Johray

• In the 2000s, during his college days in Delhi, Saini S. Johray worked as a freelance designer for many agencies. He used to design the sets for wedding and corporate events.

• During these years, he met a person who offered him a job to make set for a film. However, he did not understand the camera angles and shot divisions used during the filming as the wedding and corporate events were theme oriented.

• Saini S. Johray told them that he would design a set for them, so that they could shoot the film there. They then replied,
  

  It didn’t happen like that, You have to understand the camera angle, what portion we are shooting. You don’t have to design an entire room. If we are focusing on just a corner, use that and (design).”

• He then left the project as he was an expert in set and building designing, not filmmaking.

• Saini S. Johray then decided to enter filmmaking.

• After that, he was enrolled in Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), where he pursued art direction and production design course.

• During his studies at FTII, a faculty member of the institute, Samir Chanda, offered him to work with him on a Hindi film Kaminey.

• After completing his course, Saini S. Johray moved from Delhi to Mumbai.

• In Mumbai, Rajkummar Rao, his senior and a friend, supported him in finding work. He stayed with Rao and received his guidance. Rao told him,
  

  You come here. Things will fall into place on their own.’

• In 2009, Saini S. Johray joined Desaini Studio in Mumbai, Maharashtra, as a full-time Production Designer. He left the studio in May 2025.

• That same year, he worked as an Assistant Art Director in the film Kaminey.

• In 2010, Saini S. Johray received his first project as a Production Designer in the television series Powder. The show aired on Sony Entertainment Television.

• In 2011, he worked as a Production Designer in the film Soundtrack.

• After that, Saini S. Johray worked as an Art Director in three films Prem Mayee (2012), Satya 2 (2013), and Doors (2022).

• He then served as a Production Designer in many films, such as nautanki Sala! (2013), Sonali Cable (2014), Junooniyat (2016), Baadshaho (2020), Sanak (2021), Dhurandhar (2025).

• In June 2022, Saini S. Johray joined Netflix as a freelance Production Designer. He worked with them till May 2025.
