The video of his 1995 song 'Chief Sahab,' allegedly targeted a political party and its workers. A rumour then made rounds that in relation to the video, one of the workers of the political party, which was attacked, shaved Sajjad's head, following which, the singer fled out of Pakistan and got settled in Dubai. Sajjad, however, maintains that he moved to Dubai for personal reasons.

Sajjad’s father was a cricketer and an actor. He was, for the first time, featured in a 1973 film, ‘Badal Aur Bijli.’
While pursuing Bachelor of Arts, Sajjad briefly learnt to play The Piano.
Sajjad released his debut album at the age of just 13.
His brother, Lucky, went to the United States to pursue his business. He ran a cellphone shop there, which eventually resulted in him losing more than $30,000. Lucky then returned to Pakistan in 2014 and set up his studio.
He got the fame through a Noor Jehan’s song, ‘Banwari Chakori,’ which he performed at the stage show of PTV’s 25th anniversary.
Lyrics of most of the songs from Sajjad’s album are written by his brother Waqar Ali.
After having released a classical single, ‘Chal Rein De,’ in July 2006, he released ‘Sajjad-Ali Sinsym Flight,’ a jazzy, Sufi beat, in September the same year.
For his extraordinary skills, popular musician A. R. Rahman, publically praised his voice stating him as the original crossover.
In August 2017, Sajjad sang ‘Ronay Na Diya’ with his daughter Zaw Ali in the 10th season of Coke Studio.
