- Seema Deo (1942-2023) was a veteran Indian film actor who worked mainly in Hindi and Marathi films. She is known for being the character actor. In 2023, she passed away due to age-related ailments at her house in Bandra, Mumbai.
- She was born and brought up in Girgaon, Mumbai.
- While she was in school, her family’s financial condition was not good. So, she decided to start working in Marathi and Hindi films.
- At the suggestion of her brother, she had kept her screen name Seema.
- She met the veteran Indian actor Ramesh Deo while she was travelling on a train to a studio Filmistan Studios in Goregaon West, Mumbai. She was accompanied by her mother on the train. In the first meeting, Ramesh had a small argument with Seema’s mother.
- She started her career as a theatre artist and performed in various Hindi and Marathi theatre plays.
- Later, they were signed in the ‘Varadakshina’ in 1962, and while shooting for the film, they both fell in love with each other. Ramesh was 12 years older to Seema Deo.

Once Bimal Roy asked me which was my last Marathi film and I said, Jagachya Pathivar. He asked who had directed it. ‘Raja Paranjpe, he is my guru,’ I replied. Immediately, Bimalda stood up and said, ‘I am a huge admirer of Raja Paranjpe. He is a very big director. If you are his disciple, we will sign the contract immediately. That is how I got my first big role in Hindi films. The film had Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana and me in the lead roles. It was the story of a love triangle. I signed the contract for Rs 5,000 and got an advance of Rs 500.”

I don’t like expensive gifts, but they emotionally blackmail me, saying, ‘I don’t know if I’ll be with you tomorrow, so let me buy this for you today.’ Then we went out to eat with our children. They brought me diamond earrings for our first wedding anniversary and I have been using those earrings for the last 52 years.”
