• Seema Deo (1942-2023) was a veteran Indian film actor who worked mainly in Hindi and Marathi films. She is known for being the character actor. In 2023, she passed away due to age-related ailments at her house in Bandra, Mumbai.

• She was born and brought up in Girgaon, Mumbai.

• While she was in school, her family’s financial condition was not good. So, she decided to start working in Marathi and Hindi films.

• At the suggestion of her brother, she had kept her screen name Seema.
  

  Seema Deo in her younger days

• She met the veteran Indian actor Ramesh Deo while she was travelling on a train to a studio Filmistan Studios in Goregaon West, Mumbai. She was accompanied by her mother on the train. In the first meeting, Ramesh had a small argument with Seema’s mother.

• She started her career as a theatre artist and performed in various Hindi and Marathi theatre plays.

• Later, they were signed in the ‘Varadakshina’ in 1962, and while shooting for the film, they both fell in love with each other. Ramesh was 12 years older to Seema Deo.

• In an interview, she shared how she got her big break in Hindi films. ^[3]Rediff She said,
  

  Once Bimal Roy asked me which was my last Marathi film and I said, Jagachya Pathivar. He asked who had directed it. ‘Raja Paranjpe, he is my guru,’ I replied. Immediately, Bimalda stood up and said, ‘I am a huge admirer of Raja Paranjpe. He is a very big director. If you are his disciple, we will sign the contract immediately. That is how I got my first big role in Hindi films. The film had Shashi Kapoor, Sadhana and me in the lead roles. It was the story of a love triangle. I signed the contract for Rs 5,000 and got an advance of Rs 500.”

• She acted in more than 80 Marathi and Hindi films such as ‘Dus Lakh’ (1966), ‘Saraswatichandra’ (1968), ‘Anand’ (1971), ‘Naseeb Apna Apna’ (1986), and ‘Sansar’ (1987).

• Seema Deo was cast along with her husband in various Marathi and Hindi films.

• She was a trained dancer and did her training at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mumbai along with the veteran Indian actress Asha Parekh.

• In 1971, Seema Deo and her husband started their film production house Ramesh Deo Production (RDP) in Mumbai.

• In 2015, on her marriage anniversary, Ramesh Deo gifted her diamond bracelets. In an interview, while talking about it, Seema said,
  

  They took me to a jeweller’s shop in Mumbai. They are always impatient when shopping. Yet they always insist on giving me presents. I don’t like expensive gifts, but they emotionally blackmail me, saying, ‘I don’t know if I’ll be with you tomorrow, so let me buy this for you today.’ Then we went out to eat with our children. They brought me diamond earrings for our first wedding anniversary and I have been using those earrings for the last 52 years.”

• On 14 October 2020, her son Ajinkya Deo took to Twitter to share the news that Seema was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. ^[4]DNA India He tweeted,
  

  My mother Shrimati. Seema Deo doyen of Marathi film industry is suffering from Alzheimer’s. We the entire Deo family have been praying for her well being. Wish whole of Maharashtra who loved her so much also prays for her well being.”
