From class 1 to 6, he studied in a Karnataka medium school and when his mother shifted to a city, she got him enrolled in an English medium school. In an interview, he said that because of the change in language, he failed class seven. After failing, he joined spoken English classes, worked hard and scored 85 per cent marks.
