- Sudan Gurung was born in a Gorkha district in Nepal and grew up in Chitwan district.
- When he was six months old, his parents divorced. After that, he was raised by his grandparents. His grandfather used to work at a hotel.

In April 2015, a child died in his arms during an earthquake in Nepal. This incidence pushed him for activism, and he started working as a volunteer with Bir Hospital in Kathmandu.
- During this time, Sudan Gurung led and coordinated a group of thousand volunteers on various social media platforms.

- That same year, he served as one of the leaders of the Nepalese Gen-Z protests.

- He became a part of the negotiation meetings with Ashok Raj Sigdel. These meetings dissolved the parliament of Nepal and appointed Chief Justice Sushila Karki as interim prime minister.
- After that, during a media talk, Sudan Gurung announced that he would contest the 2026 Nepalese general election and would join a political party.

- On 18 January 2026, Sudan Gurung contested Nepal’s general elections from the Gorkha 1 constituency on the ticket of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. He received 29,896 votes and won the seat.
- On 27 March 2026, the Prime Minister of Nepal Balen Shah appointed him as the Home Minister of Nepal.
- On 22 April 2026, Sudan Gurung resigned from the cabinet. He claimed that many controversies and pressure from the general public forced him to resign.
