Some Lesser Known Facts About Sudan Gurung

• Sudan Gurung was born in a Gorkha district in Nepal and grew up in Chitwan district.

• When he was six months old, his parents divorced. After that, he was raised by his grandparents. His grandfather used to work at a hotel.

• Sudan Gurung was sent to hostel when he was in nursery class.

• He used to celebrate festivals in school hostel since his parents were busy at work.

• Once, during a media conversation, Sudan Gurung talked about his childhood. He said,

• After completing his schooling, he was enrolled in Multi International School in Kathmandu for A-Levels. However, he left his studies in second year.

• He then became popular for organising parties based on themes in his club in Thamel.

• In April 2015, a child died in his arms during an earthquake in Nepal. This incidence pushed him for activism, and he started working as a volunteer with Bir Hospital in Kathmandu.

• During this time, Sudan Gurung led and coordinated a group of thousand volunteers on various social media platforms.

• He, along with his group, provided help to the rural areas of Nepal.

• After that, Sudan Gurung blamed the Nepal government for corruption. He claimed that corruption became a hurdle in providing aids to rural areas during earthquake.

• In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, he founded a non-governmental venture titled Hami Nepal, which handled emergency cases.

• Gradually, Hami Nepal became an unbiased platform to provide relief programs to the people of Nepal.

• Various celebrities and noted people often promoted his organisation. Dr. Sanduk Ruit, a noted Nepalese ophthalmologist, has often supported Hami Nepal.

• After that, Manita Devkota, Miss Universe Nepal 2018, became a goodwill ambassador of the organisation.

• He has served as a volunteer with many other movements, such as ‘Save GHOPA,’ ‘Enough is Enough,’ and ‘Occupy Baluwatar’ organised in Kathmandu.

• In 2021, Sudan Gurung and Hami Nepal provided aids during the Nepal floods. It also helped other nations during natural disasters, such as Turkey-Syria earthquakes in 2023.

• Later, his organisation received many awards for its help during COVID-19 and other relief programs.

• According to him, Sudan Gurung wants a systematic change in the society. He often focuses on anti-corruption ways to follow secularism.

• He regularly advocates for independence of new generation. He follows religion of humanity.

• In 2025, Sudan Gurung made headlines when he organised a protest at B. P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, a University in Dharan, Nepal, and demanded transparency in the organisation.

• That same year, he served as one of the leaders of the Nepalese Gen-Z protests.

• Sudan Gurung demanded for early elections during the protests.

• He became a part of the negotiation meetings with Ashok Raj Sigdel. These meetings dissolved the parliament of Nepal and appointed Chief Justice Sushila Karki as interim prime minister.

• After that, during a media talk, Sudan Gurung announced that he would contest the 2026 Nepalese general election and would join a political party.

• He stated that Generation Z would stop the elections if their demands would not be fulfilled.

• On 14 September 2025, Sudan Gurung organised a protest and demanded the resignation of interim prime minister Sushila Karki.

• He blamed her for appointing ministers in her cabinet without prior discussions.

• On 24 December 2025, when interim prime minister Sushila Karki, denied to meet him, he reorganized a protest with a group of Gen-Zs against her.

• Sudan Gurung claimed that Sushila Karki had appointed her relatives to some key political positions, and his complaint was not accepted by the government.

• On 26 November 2025, he again led a protest on the above matter.

• On 18 January 2026, Sudan Gurung contested Nepal’s general elections from the Gorkha 1 constituency on the ticket of the Rastriya Swatantra Party. He received 29,896 votes and won the seat.

• On 27 March 2026, the Prime Minister of Nepal Balen Shah appointed him as the Home Minister of Nepal.

• On 22 April 2026, Sudan Gurung resigned from the cabinet. He claimed that many controversies and pressure from the general public forced him to resign.
