Some Lesser Known Facts About Sukhjeet Singh
- He talked about how his father, a former Punjab police hockey player, introduced him to hockey and taught him the basics of hockey in an interview, and said,
My father had a big hockey stick. My father cut that big stick and gave it to me when I was about four or five years old. My father would come home from work and take me to the ground to teach me hockey.
- After learning the basics from his father, Sukhjeet was enrolled in a hockey academy in Chandigarh, where he trained for 7 years.
- In 2018, he was selected in the list of probable players to play for India.
- However, he missed the opportunity as he got paralysed on the right side of his body after one of his nerves got pinched during the physiotherapy and acupuncture session.
- It took him 6 months of continuous treatment to be able to stand properly.
- Slowly he started strength training and weight training with the focus of getting back to playing hockey.
- In November 2019, he helped Punjab National Bank (PNB) to win the Senior Nehru Hockey Tournament in New Delhi.
- In December 2021, his performance helped PNB win the bronze medal at the Inter-Departmental National Championship in Bengaluru and earned him a place in the Indian team.
- He enjoys working out in the gym.
