Some Lesser Known Facts About Tinkesh Kaushik

  • He was struck by electricity on December 29, 2002, at the age of 9, when his kite became entangled in a high-tension wire carrying 11,000 volts.
  • Initially, doctors refused to treat him thinking he would die, causing a delay in his treatment.
  • While changing his dressing, a doctor accidentally cut the vein of his arm, causing Tinkesh to have another near-death experience.
  • After completing his graduation, he appeared for government exams at the insistence of his parents but could not qualify.
  • He also started to feel that he was getting fat due to a lack of activity and started to focus on getting healthier.
  • In 2016, a video of him running a marathon with the Jaipur artificial limbs in New Delhi went viral.
  • The video helped him get sponsored by the NGO, Aditya Mehta Foundation for sports-oriented prosthetic legs.
  • The Aditya Mehta Foundation also trained him in swimming, cycling and fitness exercises to become a para-athlete.

  • He wanted to represent India in the Paralympics in cycling, but couldn’t find a sponsor as the training for it was very expensive.
  • In 2018, he moved to Pune and started working as a fitness instructor at a local gym.
  • At the same time, he also joined Sancheti Hospital in Pune as a mentor and trainer to patients with disabilities.
  • In 2019, he served as the Ambassador for Kargil Vijay Diwas.
  • He is a certified yoga instructor and nutrition consultant.
  • In 2020, he inaugurated his gym, Milestone – The Fitness Club, in Pune, Maharashtra.

  • In March 2022, he won the Fittr Transformation Challenge in the disabled category.
  • In 2022, he became an Athlete Ambassador for ICN India, a fitness modelling and bodybuilding organisation.
  • In October 2022, he won the Rubaru Mr. India Brand Ambassador title.
  • He founded Tinkesh Ability Foundation, a non-profit organisation, that provides access to support and community to disabled people in February 2024 in Goa.
  • On 11 May 2024, he became the first triple amputee to climb the base camp of Mt. Everest which is located at a height of 17,598 feet, as part of his campaign to create awareness and raise funds for the mental health of disabled people.

  • In an interview, he talked about overcoming the challenges he faced while climbing Mt. Everest, and said,

    I faced challenges a couple of times, my health was bad because of mountain sickness and my oxygen level dropped. I suffered from headache and vomiting, but I had the strong desire to complete the mission because I wanted to set an example for people with disabilities that if you have strong mental health, then you can certainly achieve it.”

  • He considers Sydenstrica Gautam Standen to be his second mother and mentor. According to Tinkesh, she serves as a source of motivation, helping him accomplish various challenges.
