Controversies2012 Cop Assault Case: On 24 March 2012, Yashomati Thakur, her driver Sagar Suresh Khandekar, and party workers Sharad Kashirav Jawanjal and Raju Kisan Ingle, assaulted a traffic policeman Ulhas Raurale, who stopped her vehicle from entering a one-way lane in the Chunabhatti area. Consequently, Raurale registered an FIR at the Rajapeth police station in Amravati. After she was given a three-month sentence by a sessions court in Amravati, she filed an appeal in the high court against the conviction and sought suspension of the sentence by way of interim relief. In 2020, the court sentenced Thakur to three months of rigorous imprisonment in the eight-year-old case and also imposed a fine of Rs. 15,500.   • Yashomati Thakur is an Indian politician and member of the Indian National Congress (INC) who served as the Minister of Women and Child Development in Maharashtra from 30 December 2019 to 29 June 2022.
  • In 2014 Yashomati Thakur and her sister, Sanyogita Satyajit Naik Nimbalkar, made headlines as for contesting the assembly elections against each other from the Teosa Assembly constituency. Sanyogita contested the elections as an independent candidate with the support of a local organization Prahar. Nimbalkar headed Thakur’s campaign during the 2009 assembly elections and contributed to her win. In an interview, while stating her reasons behind contesting Yashomati Thakur, Sanyogita said,

    I was with Yashomati in 2004 and again in 2009. After her victory, we had some dreams and wanted to realize them, but couldn’t do so as Yashomati’s behaviour changed suddenly. Her way of politics changed. She became arrogant, started lying and insulted people. The way she started doing politics was disagreeable and difficult to see. It hurt me and I decided to contest to stop her.”
