Ashish Khetan originally belongs to Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh and did her initial schooling from there only.
He is a former journalist of Tehelka who later established his own journalism portal called Gulail.
On November 2007, he came into limelight after publishing a news report, The Truth: Gujarat 2002 (aka Operation Kalank), in his news blog, after which, the video he produced by a sting operation was also approved by the CBI.
In 2014, he wanted to enter the politics and decided to join Aam Aadmi Party. After joining the party, he fought the Delhi assembly election from Patparganj Constituency of Delhi.
His rumoured link-up with Alka Lamba, another AAP member became a hot potato in the media.
A news of his association with Essar Global in presenting paid news was once mentioned by a news blog, newslaundary.com, which created an issue of discussion in the media. As per the sources, Khetan had totally refuted his association with them and mentioned that Prashant Bhushan, a former member of AAP, had mentioned his name to exploit his image.
In 2017, some of AAP members also alleged that the BJP government might plot a conspiracy to kill Khetan.
On 20 February 2018, he, along with one of his party members, was also got assaulted at Chief Secretriate office in Delhi, and one of his party members had alleged the BJP government for the action.
