He inherited the love for football from his father. His father was a huge Premier League fan. He would sit with his father and watch matches for hours.
He was addicted to video games in his childhood; though, unlike many footballers, he was good at studies.
Seeing his passion, his father enrolled him at the local club, “Rupel Boom”, when Romelu was just 5 years old.
He stayed 4 years at the club. He was scouted from another club, Lierse. He joined the club’s academy in 2004.
He scored 121 goals in 68 matches for Lierse. After the club’s relegation from the “Belgian Pro League”, he joined Anderlecht.
Romelu featured in a documentary when he was in school, titled “De school van Lukaku,” as himself.
He scored 15 goals in the 2009-2010 season for Anderlecht to win the most goals in the Belgian Pro League Award for the 2009-2010 season. His performance was one of the reasons that led to Anderlecht winning the Belgian Title.
