Some Lesser Known Facts About Sophie Ecclestone
- Sophie Ecclestone is an English cricketer who plays for the England women’s cricket team. She has also represented Lancashire, North West Thunder, Manchester Originals, and Sydney Sixers in domestic and franchise competitions. She went on to become the world’s number-one bowler in WT20I cricket following the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
- She spent her childhood in Helsby village in Cheshire, where she grew up playing multiple sports with her elder brother, James, and father. James taught her how to play both football and cricket.
- Thereafter, she enrolled in Alvanley Cricket Club, Helsby, where she received her formal cricket training under coach Robin Fisher. Additionally, Ecclestone’s father was the junior coordinator there. She was the only girl on the club’s pathway then. After joining the club’s junior section at 7, she entered the Cheshire U13s pathway two years later. James was one of her teammates when she debuted for the Alvanley boys’ team.
