She was found unresponsive at her home in Park Belvedere, North Point, in what seems to be a case of suicide involving burning charcoal. Her son discovered her unconscious, and the police were notified around 1:12 pm. Despite being rushed to Ruttonjee Hospital in Hong Kong, Lai was pronounced dead. No suicide note was found, and the exact cause of her death is pending confirmation through an autopsy.
