The TMC posted a video of Murmu on their social media accounts in which he was seen kissing a girl on the cheek during campaigning. However; while talking to a media house about the incident, he called it "an act of affection." - In 2024, the BJP announced Khagen Murmu as their candidate for the 2024 Indian general election from the Maldaha Uttar in West Bengal.
- In an interview, Khagen Murmu discussed his decision to move from the Communist Party of India to the BJP and claimed that it was a spontaneous decision. He also said that the ideologies of the CPI (M) did not align with his ideologies. He said,
You can say it was a very sudden, spontaneous decision. The Left Front’s ideologies, especially that of the leadership in Bengal, has somewhat deteriorated. From their ideals to their policies, things have changed a lot. See, policy-wise, things often change, it’s up to the organisation. But the ideals, that had to be compromised a lot. Things that we could not imagine doing, we were made to do.”
