Some Lesser Known Facts About Sanjay Tandon

• Sanjay Tandon belongs to a religious family in Amritsar, Punjab, India. He started attending the RSS Shakha in Amritsar at the age of six. Later, he was chosen as the Mukhya Shikshak of the Abhimanyu Shakha at Amritsar.

• In 1977, he moved to Chandigarh along with his family while studying in class 8.

• In 1986, Sanjay became a Chartered accountant and began practising under the name of S.Tandon & Associates. He later became a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

• In 1988, he finished his cost accountant and became an Associate Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India and an Associate member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.

• Later, he was nominated to the boards of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Ltd. (NHPC) and State Bank of Hyderabad by the Government of India. He remained Director of National Hydro Power Corporation for 3 years and State Bank of Hyderabad for 6 years.

• In 1991, Sanjay Tandon became a vegetarian. During an interview, he talked about the reason he turned vegetarian and revealed that he took this decision because of his children. He said,

• In 1993, he founded the Competent Synergies which provided services in Banking & Finance, Telecommunications, E-Commerce, FMCG, Accounting, Auditing, Consulting, Stock Broking, Commodity Broking, Software products, Coworking spaces, and Public Sector across 10 states in India. He remained the director of the competent Synergies up until September 2021.

• He is a philanthropist and runs multiple NGOs including Competent Foundation and Balramji Dass Tandon Charitable Foundation.

• In 2008, he wrote a biography of his father Sh. Balramjit Dass Tandon named Balramji Dass Tandon: Ek Prerak Charitra’ which former Deputy Prime Minister Sh.L.K. Advani released.

• In 2009, he started a monthly magazine for party activists namely ‘Chandigarh Kamal Samachar’ and he became the founder and Editor of the magazine. The magazine includes all the activities of the party at the local and national levels.

• In 2015, he was appointed as the director of GAIL (India) Limited and held the position for 4 years up until November 2019.

• He is the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Administrators Advisory Council on Sports Management for Chandigarh Administration.

• Sanjay Tandon has co-authored more than seven books with his wife Priya Tandon for the Sunray Series. The Sunrays series contains Inspirational short stories based on the teachings of Sathya Sai Baba. His work has also been published in Hindi and Telugu.

• Tandon holds many positions including Member of the Information and Communication Technology Corporation, Punjab for Human Resource Development in IT/ITES, Member of the Committee of Finance, Banking, Insurance and Capital Market of the Chamber of Commerce, Member of the Task Force for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (for Punjab), and Member of the Committee to discharge the functions of the Board of Studies in Human Rights & Duties, Panjab University, Chandigarh.

• He is a regular speaker at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), where he mainly discusses the topic of the Annual Budget.

• He often gives speeches and addresses CA final students at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India,’ Chandigarh, as a part of the General Management and Communication Skills (GMCS) programme, where he mainly discusses the topic of ‘Leadership & Motivation.

• He is an ardent follower of Sathya Sai Baba, he regularly visits Puttaparthi along with his family for the blessings of Sathya Sai Baba.

• In November 2015, he became the director of GAIL (India) Limited.

• In November 2016, he became a Senate Member at Panjab University, Chandigarh.

• On 15 April 2024, the BJP announced Sanjay Tandon as the BJP candidate from Chandigarh for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections.
