Some Lesser Known Facts About Rubina Francis
- Rubina was born with club foot condition, a disability which prevents her from standing in a balanced manner.
- Rubina considers Gagan Narang as her shooting idol. Her interest developed in shooting sports when Gagan Narang’s shooting academy Guns for Glory once visited her school to advertise the sport.
- In 2006, Rubina started to learn the basics of shooting at a camp organised by a shooting academy in Jabalpur.
- Rubina’s shooting journey started in 2015. She enrolled in Madhya Pradesh’s Shooting Academy under the mentorship of JP Nautiyal and Subhash Rana.
- Rubina’s family’s financial situation got worse after her father’s bike repair shop in Jabalpur was demolished by the Municipal Corporation. Her mother also started working as a nurse at a hospital to support her sporting ambitions.
- In 2016, Rubina achieved a score of 386 in the nationals which led to her selection for the World Cup in February 2017 in United Arab Emirates. Rubina reached the finals of the tournament and made a junior world record.
- In 2017, Rubina joined Gun for Glory Shooting Academy in Jabalpur.
- Rubina was unable to shoot while both standing and sitting and to overcome these shortcomings, her coach JP Nautiyal provided her with special shoes which helped her maintain her balance while shooting.
- Rubina won her first international medal under the guidance of Jaspal Rana.
- Rubina finished in 7th place at the 2020 Paralympics Games in the P2 – 10m Air Pistol event.
- In July 2024, Rubina secured the quota for the 2024 Paris Paralympics under the bipartite rule.
- Rubina scored a total of 211.1 and came third in the eight-women final at the Chateauroux Shooting Range at the Paralympic Games 2024.
