  • Rabeel Warraich’s father owned a travel agency in Islamabad, Pakistan. His family travelled abroad yearly during his growing-up years. According to him, these travels instilled a global outlook on life.
  • During his school education, his peers nicknamed him MIT after he disclosed his goal to study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the USA.
  • After he graduated from MIT, he started his career in 2008 as an investment banking analyst in the Mergers and Acquisitions division of the investment banking company, Morgan Stanley in London, United Kingdom.
  • From 2011 to 2017, he worked as the vice president of the private equity division of GIC (Government of Singapore Investment Corporation) Private Limited in London, UK.
  • During this period, he formed an investment consortium with other finance professionals who shared his interest in high-growth startup companies. Their first investment was in Spotify, a Swedish audio-streaming and music provider.
  • Once the startup culture began in Pakistan around 2014, he started researching the early-stage businesses in Pakistan.
  • In December 2016, he founded the venture capital firm Sarmayacar with Dr. Bernhard Klemen, a friend and former colleague from Morgan Stanley. The firm’s first investment was USD 200,000 in Patari, a music-streaming service.

  • In 2017, the firm invested USD 250,000 in the pharmaceutical supply chain company Procheck.
  • As the business activities of Sarmayacar increased he decided to leave GIC and return to Pakistan in May 2017.
  • In 2018, Rabeel Warraich became the interim CEO of Patari after a sexual harassment controversy led to a change in its top management.
  • He was a board member of Dawaai Private Limited (a digital healthcare platform and online pharmacy) from February 2020 to August 2023.
