- In 1964, Ganesan joined the Indian Air Force in a civilian post.
- Once, in a media discussion, he recalled a memory from his time as an IAF official. He mentioned,
When the war with Pakistan happened, I was in the Air Force. At that time, my duty was from 6 pm to 6 am in Jammu and Kashmir. Those were the days that made me feel like I had seen everything in life.”
- During his time in the IAF, he was part of the Delhi-based theatre group, Dakshina Bharata Nataka Sabha.
- In 1974, Ganesan left the IAF to pursue a career in the film industry.
- He then joined Kathadi Ramamurthi’s theatre company.
